West Highland White Terriers

We are Tony Lilley and David Milling. We have owned Westies since 2002, and it was some while later that we decided to breed, and consequently to show some of our dogs.

Tony had grown up with dogs but always wanted to own a Westie, and it was while filming up in Scotland in early 2002 that he decided that the time was right. David had been brought up with several dogs. As with all things in life it’s a delicate balance, and there are times when work makes it impossible to enter shows, but we do as many as we can.

Our first two Westies, both girls, we called Lily and Milly. A play on our surnames, and subsequently as the foundation from our humble beginnings, our Kennel Club affix LILMILL.

From Milly’s first litter we kept the girl, Winnie (lilmill Bright Star), and a boy, Alfie, now Champion (lilmill What’s it all About).

Alfie has been a star from the outset. He won Best Puppy in Breed at his first Championship show at Southern Counties under Roz Dunne (Charosmack) in June 2006. Since then he has continued to exceed expectation, winning numerous first places in his classes under top breed specialists, including 1st place in Junior dog at CRUFTS 2007. He went on to win his first CC under Mags Evans (Ogdeva) at Southern Counties the next year, where he took Best of Breed too. His second CC came from Mr Martin Phillips (Jaeva) at SKC in August of 2007. He went on to take Best of Breed, and the Terrier group 1st place all on the same day. We came home elated, and what seemed like a long drive up to Edinburgh, seemed to take only minutes on the return! His 3rd CC was won at Midland Counties under Marion Spavin, where he again took Best of Breed. This made him up to a CHAMPION. It was an amazing day, and the culmination of many hours of training, much help along the way, and many miles on the motorways and hours in the grooming room. We continue to lightly show Alfie.

To our delight, Winnie has also regularly been placed at shows and to her credit won 3rd place in Junior bitch at CRUFTS 2007 under breed specialist Modwena Johnston. Reserve Best Bitch at the Southern West Highland White Terrier Club open show 2007, and Best Opposite Sex at the WHWTC of Wales open show the same year.

From Lily’s first litter, born on Christmas day 2007, we kept Daisy (Lilmill giv me your answer do), who in her first show at Windsor in June, won 2nd place in Minor puppy bitch, qualifying herself for CRUFTS the next year! A great start.

From Winnie’s first litter of three girls we kept Lilmill Potty Dotty, who is now holding her own in the show ring. And from Daisy’s first litter we have Lilmill Pocket Rocket, who will join the show ring soon.

So now we continue, breeding from time to time and hopefully producing quality, healthy stock for our future, and for the future of the breed.
